Anticipated Books 2017

There are a few books scheduled for release this year that I am very excited about so I thought I’d share them with you!

  1. Untitled (Throne of glass #6)
This will be the final instalment in Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series and I am both super excited and super dreading it. Excited because Celaena/Aelin is my favourite literary character ever and Sarah is my favourite author ever and so reading this book will be literal heaven for me. But dreading because it’s the last book in the series and I just don’t even what I’m going to do when I turn that last page!
It’s scheduled for release in September 2017.

[This book does not yet have a cover]

  2. A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3)23766634
“Looming war threatens all Feyre holds dear in the third volume of the #1 New York Times bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses series.Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin’s maneuverings and the invading king threatening to bring Prythian to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit-and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well.

As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords-and hunt for allies in unexpected places.

In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the earth will be painted red as mighty armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy them all.” – Goodreads

This is the third book in the series again by Sarah J. Maas, and I am so insanely excited for this because the last book, A Court of Mist and Fury, was phenomenal! It was left on such a cliffhanger and I’m dying to know what happens next!

It’s scheduled for release in May 2017.

  3. Perfect (Flawed #2)
    28116714

“Sort of like The Scarlet Letter meets Divergent, Flawed and Perfect are set in a future society where perfection is valued above humanity and “flawed” people who commit acts of disobedience or rebellion are branded with an F.” – Goodreads.

This is the second in the ‘Flawed’ series by Cecelia Ahern. I read Flawed in December and LOVED IT! This was Ahern’s YA debut and she nailed it!

I don’t want to spoil anything about this series because it speaks for itself, I highly recommend you go and read Flawed so we can be excited for this sequel together!

It’s scheduled for release in April 2017.

Those are the 3 books that I am most anticipating in 2017! Here’s some honourable mentions that were released in early January.

Under Rose Tainted Skies
28101540

“At seventeen, Norah has accepted that the four walls of her house delineate her life. She knows that fearing everything from inland tsunamis to odd numbers is irrational, but her mind insists the world outside is too big, too dangerous. So she stays safe inside, watching others’ lives through her windows and social media feed.

But when Luke arrives on her doorstep, he doesn’t see a girl defined by medical terms and mental health. Instead, he sees a girl who is funny, smart, and brave. And Norah likes what he sees.

Their friendship turns deeper, but Norah knows Luke deserves a normal girl. One who can walk beneath the open sky. One who is unafraid of kissing. One who isn’t so screwed up. Can she let him go for his own good—or can Norah learn to see herself through Luke’s eyes?” – Goodreads.

I’ve seen this book making the rounds in the BookTube community recently and people seem to love it! I loved Sophie Kinsella’s ‘Finding Audrey’ which also centered around themes of mental health and anxiety so I am excited to see what this book has to offer. I just hope we don’t run into a case of – girl has crippling anxiety, girl meets boy, they fall in love and of girl’s problems go away. Cause that would suck.

Frostblood (Frostblood Saga #1)
27827203“Seventeen-year-old Ruby is a fireblood who must hide her powers of heat and flame from the cruel frostblood ruling class that wants to destroy all that are left of her kind. So when her mother is killed for protecting her and rebel frostbloods demand her help to kill their rampaging king, she agrees. But Ruby’s powers are unpredictable, and she’s not sure she’s willing to let the rebels and an infuriating (yet irresistible) young man called Arcus use her as their weapon.

All she wants is revenge, but before they can take action, Ruby is captured and forced to take part in the king’s tournaments that pit fireblood prisoners against frostblood champions. Now she has only one chance to destroy the maniacal ruler who has taken everything from her and from the icy young man she has come to love.

Fast-paced and compelling, Frostblood is the first in a page-turning new young adult three-book series about a world where flame and ice are mortal enemies—but together create a power that could change everything.” – Goodreads.

This is Elly Blake’s debut release which I once again found out about from the BookTube community. It’s already bought and downloaded on my Kindle. Amazon compares it to Sarah J Mass’ ‘Throne of Glass’ series, and that’s pretty big claim so I an very eager to read this and see if it lives up to its expectations.

Thank you for reading. x

Review: Nerve – Jeanne Ryan

“W13088498hen Vee is picked to be a player in NERVE, an anonymous game of dares broadcast live online, she discovers that the game knows her. They tempt her with prizes taken from her ThisIsMe page and team her up with the perfect boy, sizzling-hot Ian. At first it’s exhilarating–Vee and Ian’s fans cheer them on to riskier dares with higher stakes. But the game takes a twisted turn when they’re directed to a secret location with five other players for the Grand Prize round. Suddenly they’re playing all or nothing, with their lives on the line. Just how far will Vee go before she loses NERVE?” – Goodreads

After an incident that leaves her parents unable to trust her, Vee’s life becomes extremely routine and PC. She isn’t the kind of girl who lives her life in the spotlight and lives in the shadow of her lead actress best-friend. But when that best friend betrays her, Vee decides to do something out of her comfort zone and apply for the thrill-seeking game of dares called Nerve. What she doesn’t expect is to be thrown into a sinister world of players and watchers where the lines between thrilling game and disturbing reality become terrifyingly blurred.

The key characters in this novel are Vee, Ian and Tommy.

Vee is shy, quite and extremely responsible (despite what her parents believe) and perfectly fits the stereotypical “I am too boring and I need to rectify this by doing something crazy and stupid,” character trope. Is she incredibly relatable? No. Does she have a lot of depth? Meh. Was she good enough for the novel to still be enjoyable? Yes.

She wasn’t perfect but she did work well for what the novel wanted her to do and she did make me really want to see the movie. She did her job as far as progressing the story and that is what counts.

Ian is the stereotypically gorgeous, god-like, super hot love interest who falls in love with our main character in the span of a few days and they seemingly spend the rest of their lives together. Do I absolutely love it when head-over-heels insta love happens? No, I definitely prefer it when a relationship is more developed and takes a more meaningful path. Did it make me hate the novel? No, it definitely didn’t. If you’re looking for something deep and meaningful then you’re reading the wrong book here. However, if you’re looking for a bit of light reading, something quick that can hold your attention, then you’ve come to the right place.

To be frank, all of the characters in this book are a bit of a stereotype but like I said, I didn’t hate the novel for it. It was an easy read that I’m happy to have under my belt and is very good for a bit of in-between extremely intense novel reading.

The thing I most enjoyed about this book was the general idea. I loved the premise of a sinister game of dares becoming dark and life threatening and I would have loved if this book was aimed at an older target audience and if the author had been able to go down a much darker and sinister route. I think the book could have been made a lot more thrilling and ‘edge-of-your-seat’ exciting this way.

One thing I did not enjoy was the prologue. A random tid-bit about an ex-player being killed/injured that didn’t really relate to the rest of the story in any way. The terrible thing is that I would have been more interested in reading that girl’s story than I was reading about Vee’s. This is just not a good thing to do, a backstory should never be more exciting than your main plot.

I’ve not read any other books by this author and although I wont oppose reading others, I’m also not in any significant rush to try any more. I think we have a case of an extremely exiting, new and interesting idea that just wasn’t executed in the best way and I think this has a lot to do with its young target audience.

Woman Crush Wednesday

Welcome to a post where I’m going to share a list of amazing women that you need to check out right now.

Lucie FinkNHgMTS80

(23 year-old working at Refinery29)

-I first became aware of Lucie when I found her ‘Try Living With Lucie’ series, which you can find here.

-Her series consists of her doing various 5-day challenges. For example, ‘5 Days of No Sugar’‘5 Days on a Juice Cleanse’‘5 Days of Being Vegan’ and so much more.

-Her series has really inspired me and made me want to try some of them for myself! Also, with things like the juice cleanse, she tries them first so you don’t have to go in blind!

-And lets be honest, her up-beat personality is insanely infectious!

Meg Turney216b200f1fdb89e2-meg-006

(29 year-old internet personality working at Rooster Teeth)

-The first thing you should know about Meg: She is hair and body goals. Somehow she manages to dye her hair absolutely crazy colours and she always looks amazing. Also, butt goals. Don’t believe me? Check out her Instagram.

-Second thing you should know about Meg: She is incredibly ambitious and hard-working. She is the perfect inspiration for someone who knows what they want and doesn’t give up until they get it. Last year, Meg got a concussion during a shoot which then lead to a whole series of neurological problems. At one point she even had a seizure and it was terrifying. But also during this time she was working on her fitness and filming a series called Buff Buddies, where she was running and working out a lot. She could have given up, but instead she showed everyone just how strong she is and saw the series to the very end and continues to run and work out to this day.

-There are so many other things that make Meg awesome, you should check her out for yourself at her personal channel, the Rooster Teeth channel and The Know.

Ingrid Nilsen
Uc9eZKry

(27 year-old YouTube personality)

-Ingrid made it to my list this week because of this video.

-A year after she made this video announcing her coming out, Ingrid’s message that it is okay to change your mind and that something that is true for you today, doesn’t necessarily have to be true tomorrow, is very important.

-In her latest video she describes how her year after coming out has been and the struggles and the beautiful moments that have come with it.

-She lets her audience know that despite popular belief, you aren’t done when you come out, everything isn’t suddenly perfect. It’s a process of truly finding yourself, and that process is longer for some than others.

-Both videos are important watches for the topics of self-love and acceptance.

-Also, can we just take a moment to appreciate her hair?

What women are you inspired by? Let me know in the comments!

Me Me Monday | 30 Facts

So I’ve been doing blog posts for quite some time now, and it’s highly likely that some of you reading this will know next to nothing about me. So today I thought I’d give you some facts so you can get to know me better!

  1. I have the smallest hands of anyone I’ve ever met and compared to.
  2. I also have tiny feet. Most of the time I’m a size 3, but occasionally even those are too big!
  3. I was the fussiest eater growing up. I didn’t even like chips or ice cream cones. WHAT CHILD DOESN’T LIKE CHIPS AND ICE CREAM CONES?! Oh and cheese, I’d only eat melted cheese.
  4. I LOVE attending events and parties, but the thought of organising anything myself is just no.
  5. Once Upon A Time is probably my favourite TV show of all time. (Reason: Collin O’Donohue)
  6. Meg Turney is always my #WCW.
  7. I cry at basically every movie/TV show with a sad moment. The Book Thief, One Upon A Time (I basically cry at every episode at this point), The Lion King (but who doesn’t?), A Girl Like Her, Your Lie in April (Omg) – just to name a few recents.
  8. I love water, but I’m not so fussed on beaches. Sand gets EVERYWHERE and it’s hella annoying.10330371_964172943638210_5530998607383066693_n
  9. I love going on walks. It’s one of mine and Jordan’s favourite things to do together.13249473_1039007142821456_1911393175_n
  10. I don’t tan, just burn.
  11. I can’t really think about two things at once. If I’m doing one thing and thinking about another I will most certainly mess up what I’m doing or lose my train of thought.
  12. I read fast. I’ve been known to become obsessed and finish books in less than a day.
  13. My favourite thing to do is snuggle up in bed and watch Netflix.
  14. I get really obsessed with things for short periods of time before deciding whether I’ll continue to enjoy the thing at a normal rate or hate it forever.
  15. I am a toffee popcorn person. Yup.
  16. My go-to bev is Archers and Lemonade! (Or strawberry Sidekick – out of the bottle of course)12204911_940001689388669_1689124572_n
  17. I live in my leggings but I have recently started wearing high waisted jeans a lot more – if you know me this is something to be extremely proud of!
  18. My go-to going out outfit is playsuits.
  19. I have way, way too many dresses and playsuits. I’ll do a collection post one day.
  20. When it comes to shoes vs bags. I am definitely a shoe girl.
  21. If I’m wearing a wooly jumper it will ALWAYS be cropped. Normal ones look weird on my 5ft 2 frame.
  22. I don’t drink cows milk. A month or so ago I converted from cows milk to an assortment of Almond, Hazelnut, Vanilla and Soy milk. they taste so much better!
  23. I like chewy crisps. Y’know like when they’ve been open for a while… Yup.
  24. I am in the process of switching to and trying various dairy-free yogurt.
  25. I will also choose quorn over chicken. Again, I think it tastes better (Who knows, maybe I’m insane).
  26. Texture is huge for me when it comes to food. Hence why I don’t eat yogurt with bits in it.
  27. As a child I was terrified of the BFG. Yes you read right, the Big Friendly Giant.
  28. My favourite book series of all time is Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass.
  29. I wish I was Celaena Saradothien/Aelin.
  30. Lastly, I love to write. It is my number one creative outlet.

Are you surprised by any of these? Do you feel like you know me better? Let me know!

MAC LIPSTICK REVIEW | Aimee

Hello everyone!

Those that know me know that I absolutely love my Mac lipsticks! They are so gorgeous and I definitely protect them with my life.

I’ve been ‘collecting’ these lipsticks since around October time, and today I thought I’d show you my opinion on what I’ve collected so far.

Reviews of the colours are below, if you’d like to see what they look like then you can watch the following video.

Frost – Meltdown: This is the most subtle colour I own, it’s extremely gorgeous all year round and is definitely my go-to shade. It’s super easy to wear and goes with almost any outfit. It has a creamy texture and isn’t drying to wear, it’s easy to apply, goes onto the lips smoothly and is also easy to remove. It’s not the most durable but as it’s a ‘frost’ and those aren’t particularly pigmented it’s very easy to re-apply. If you’re not a re-apply kind of girl you’re also in luck with this shade as it fades evenly and you can leave it to fade off naturally if you want to, without looking ridiculously patchy.

This lipstick gets a 10/10, I would highly recommend adding this to your make-up collection!

Frost – Bronze Shimmer: Not for the faint of heart this colour is exactly what it says on the tin, a bronze-gold shimmery lipstick. Not a daytime look in my opinion, apart from maybe at christmas time. However, this looks gorgeous when done right, I usually save this one for nights-out as it’s not exactly a natural-looking colour. It’s not quite as easy to apply as Meltdown and it’s definitely not as subtle. I recommend using a lip scrub to exfoliate your lips before applying this one and/or using a good lip liner as a base otherwise you may end up looking a little dry and patchy.

Matte – Mocha: This and Meltdown were the first Mac lipsticks I ever bought, and to this day they remain my favourites. Mocha is everything Meltdown is just in a different colour. It isn’t drying, it’s sophisticated and gorgeous. Definitely my go-to when I want something slightly less subtle than Meltdown but something that suits me just as much. This, as with all of these lipsticks, probably will not work with all looks and skin tones, but if you have a skin-tone similar to mine, I definitely recommend giving this one a try. Once again this is a lipstick that fades evenly so when I forget to re-apply (which is often) I don’t look like a complete mess!

Matte – Ruby Woo: Ahh the famous Ruby Woo. This one I acquired when looking for my first red by Mac, I wasn’t at all sure what direction I wanted to go in but when a colleague told me this was a best seller, I decided to trust the numbers and give it a go for myself. I will say the colour is stunning, it’s vibrant, it suits my skin tone, but its downfall is in the application department. I find this lipstick to be extremely dry which makes it a little difficult to apply. I find I have to wet my lips or somehow soften the lipstick before application. If you’re looking for a moisturising lipstick, this is definitely not one for you, but like I said, the colour is amazing and that’s enough for me.

Matte – So Chaud: This is another red but with more of an orange undertone. It tends to be that I save Ruby Woo for nights-out and this is the one that I’ll apply during the day when I’m feeling particularly confident with my make-up choices. As with all of these colours, it looks gorgeous and thankfully it’s not at all as dry as Ruby Woo so is much easier to apply. As they are far more pigmented than the others though, this and Ruby Woo do not fade particularly well and if you’re planning to eat or drink (or if you’re just the kind of person who licks their lips a lot) you will definitely need to re-apply these from time-time to avoid looking patchy.

FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY | Aimee & Jordan

Jordan and I finally reached our five year anniversary on April 14th 2016!

With me being in university, we sadly weren’t able to celebrate on the day and instead chose to wait until I came home for the summer. So on May 10th 2016 we finally got to celebrate with a trip to Cardiff.

It’s not the most professional of videos, but we had a lot of fun making it and it’ll make for a lovely memory to look back on!

Hope you enjoy!
